TOWN OF COLORS
Bringing Public Art to Charles City
Public art has become a widely accepted foundation of civic design. It adds cultural, artistic and monetary value to a community. It also enhances community pride and sense of belonging as well as nurturing community coherence.
The name for this project comes from a Charles City High School class, Iowa Big North. A group of students worked on a project they called "Town of Colors", the idea being to bring public art to Charles City. Dean Andrews was also imagining big murals in our town. He presented his idea to the Arts Center and Town of Colors became reality. This summer we are excited to welcome Erik Burke and Gaia to paint two murals on Main Street.
