OUR STORY
The name for this project comes from a Charles City High School class, Iowa Big North. A group of students worked on a project they called "Town of Colors", the idea being to bring public art to Charles City. Several community members saw their presentation and formed a committee which is sponsored by the Charles City Arts Center. The first two murals were completed in July, 2021.
PRAIRIE
Prairie is a collaborative mural by Erik Burke and Gaia which reflects our local natural habitat. This beautiful mural is located at 300 N. Main St in the parking lot of First Citizens Bank.
BODIES IN MOTION
This skillfully layered mural is also a collaborative effort between Gaia and Erik Burke. It is located at 222 N. Main St. This building is home to a fitness center, Snap Fitness, so this energetic mural is a perfect fit.
SUMMER 2021 MURAL ARTISTS
We were fortunate enough to bring two world-renowned artists to Charles City to create the first two murals for the project, Gaia and Erik Burke. Gaia is an artist who has been named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 in Art and Style list, has been a Fullbright beneficiary, and has work on display on all six habitable continents. Erik Burke has worked throughout the United States as well as South America, Asia, and Europe.
