Charles City Arts Center
Summer Youth Art Program: Session Three
Ages 6–13

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We’re excited to announce our Cyanotype Sun Print Camp at the Charles City Arts Center in July! This 3-day class introduces students to an art process that uses sunlight to create beautiful blue prints.

Class Details:
Dates: July 29th, 30th & 31st
Time: 3:30–5:00 PM
Location: Charles City Arts Center

Family Showcase

Parents and caregivers are invited to join us on the final day, July 31st, from 4:30–5:00 PM for a brief showcase of student artwork. Come see what your child has created and celebrate their work!

During the camp, students will explore how to create artwork using special light-sensitive paper. By arranging leaves, flowers, and other objects, they will use sunlight to produce one-of-a-kind prints. Over the three days, students will experiment, refine their designs, and create a collection of finished pieces to take home.

What to Expect:

  • Hands-on, creative learning in a supportive environment

  • Outdoor exposure time (weather permitting)

  • Multiple completed artworks

  • A fun blend of art, science, and nature

What to Bring:

  • Clothes that can get a little messy

  • A water bottle

  • Optional: small flat objects from home (leaves, lace, or interesting shapes to experiment with)

All other supplies will be provided. Registration is only $10 due to the generous support of the Salvation Army of Charles City.

Weather Note:
This process works best with sunlight, but we will adjust as needed in cloudy conditions and still have a great experience.

We look forward to supporting your child’s creativity and artistic growth this summer. If you have any questions, please contact the Charles City Arts Center. Class will be taught by our summer kids’ educational team: Shaune Fields and Rowyn Schmidt.

Sincerely,

Emily Kiewel - Director
