Charles City Arts Center
Kids Summer Art Camp: Session One
Ages 6–9

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are excited to offer a three-day summer art class for students ages 6-9 at the Charles City Arts Center inspired by the abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky.

Details:
Dates: June 10th, 11th & 12th
Time: 3:30–5:00 PM

Location: Charles City Arts Center

Family Showcase

Parents and caregivers are invited to join us on the final day, June 12th, from 4:30–5:00 PM for a brief showcase of student artwork. Come see what your child has created and celebrate their work!

This class will explore color, shape, line, and movement through hands-on art experiences. Kandinsky believed that colors and shapes could express feelings just like music. During this class, students will learn about abstract art while creating their own large, multi-day mixed media masterpiece.

Throughout the three days, students will:

• Learn about Kandinsky and abstract art
• Explore color mixing and color relationships
• Create concentric circles inspired by Squares with Concentric Circles
• Add movement and geometric designs inspired by Composition VIII
• Experiment with texture, pattern, and layered techniques
• Build confidence in creative expression

Each child will complete one large, artwork that develops over all three days.

This class supports:

  • Creative thinking

  • Fine motor development

  • Color theory understanding

  • Artistic confidence

  • Appreciation of art history

All supplies are provided. Registration is only $10 due to the generous support of the Salvation Army of Charles City.

We look forward to supporting your child’s creativity and artistic growth this summer. If you have any questions, please contact the Charles City Arts Center. Class will be taught by our summer kids’ educational team: Shaune Fields and Rowyn Schmidt.

Sincerely,

Emily Kiewel-Director
