High School Art Exhibit Kicks Off April With a Bang

CHARLES CITY, Iowa - We kicked off the month of April with the High School Art Exhibit. The opening reception took place Friday April 7th from 5-7PM.

We counted 300 visitors!

So great to see that many people here to support the young people and their art.

Brian and Tia worked very hard getting things hung and ready. CCHS is lucky to have them on staff and helping the next generation of creative minds flex.

Emily and I helped hang the show as well. Hanging that amount of art in 2 days is quite a big project. We definitely killed the payroll budget this week.

Our receptions in 2023 are all sponsored by Tellurian Brewing and we are super thankful for their support. They sponsored the HS exhibit opening as well, but this time we obviously did not serve wine or their beer. We had plenty of great food, however, thanks to them.

The fruit tray got hit early, but I was still able to get a shot of that and some delicious cookies.

I believe that "Cookie" is the most important of all the food groups and a beautiful word.

As mentioned, 300 people were on hand. Incredible. It was our honor to host them all. Here are some reception action shots. Don't be afraid to high-five yourself if you see yourself.

The exhibit was juried by long time Arts Center friend Ann Schneckloth. Awards were given in both 2D and 3D work with a Best In Show awarded as well. It is a very difficult show to judge. I have done it in the past and the amount of work is a bit overwhelming. Not to mention that you don't want to hurt feelings or discourage creative pursuits.

Ann did a great job in crossing those hurdles, though.
