New Exhibit, New Classes And Great Weather!

CHARLES CITY, Iowa - The weather is great and we have a really cool show this month. "Home Free" from artist Tonja Ihlenfeldt features her unique photograph/paintings.

“I always purpose to touch the heart of each viewer with a message of hope and love. “Home Free” can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. I desire that someone will walk away from this show seeing hope…that there is a path in life to make everything good.”

Ihlenfeldt’s work involves both painting and photography. The two mediums are blended together on canvas to form a unique final composition that starts with a printed photo on canvas that is either stretched on a frame or stretched over a birch box. Then she paints.

“I am a trained oil painter, but this process is different than traditional painting. In traditional painting, I decide a composition first. In this, I have to “find” the composition with the paint. Sometimes this includes leaving exposed photo images or covering much of the photo. Color, brushstrokes and parts of the photo all contribute to create a finished piece.”

The opening reception for "Home Free" took place on Friday March 1st and saw close to 40 visitors. The event was sponsored by Jeremy Rogstad State Farm.

The exhibit is up all month, so you still have plenty of time to come check it out.
